# CS2 pets and Chicken Eggs: odds, breeds, feed and care

The weekly drop can now offer a Chicken Egg: the start of a new pet. Claiming one uses both reward picks, and Valve has not published how often it appears. Here is what is known about the odds, which eggs and chickens exist and how to look after one.

## What are the new eggs in CS2?

Following the September 22, 2026 Rush Hour update, players [found Chicken Eggs in Weekly Care Packages](https://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/1wnpzqn/what_is_this/). An egg is the beginning of a chicken pet. Once claimed, it appears beside your agent in the main menu and can be inspected. After about a week it hatches into a chick that grows into a hen of one of three breeds.

## What are the odds of getting an egg?

Valve has not published egg odds; player reports show it is offered to only some players. In the same week, some Prime owners see a Chicken Egg in their Care Package while others get only cases, skins and graffiti. When an egg is offered, it takes both picks. What decides whether you are offered one is not known.

- **Egg odds in the Care Package** are unpublished. We do not repeat exact percentages that cite neither Valve nor the game files.
- **Breed odds** are unknown: how the game picks a breed has not been worked out yet.
- **Colour odds within a breed** can only be estimated for some colours from game-file weights. These rounded figures have not yet been confirmed by a large sample of grown pets and cannot become overall odds without the breed probability.

## How to get a Chicken Egg

1. **Check Prime and your weekly reward** — Weekly Care Packages require Prime. If you already claimed this week’s reward, check the next reset using the [drop pool timer](https://skinory.io/en/droppool).

2. **Level up your profile** — Earn XP in official Valve matches. You need your first profile level-up of the weekly cycle; your Premier rating is a separate system.

3. **Inspect the offered rewards** — Look for Chicken Egg. Not every player is offered one: if none is offered, you cannot choose an egg from that package. Playing more matches does not reroll the existing offer.

4. **Compare it with the other items** — The egg uses both picks. You cannot claim an egg and a case from the same weekly package.

5. **Inspect your egg in the main menu** — After claiming it, check your pet information: it shows the hatch date.

## Where to find your egg and pet after claiming it

Check the CS2 main menu: the egg appears beside your agent, where you can open the pet inspection view. Do not look for it among cases to sell on Steam. Pet ownership works differently from tradable weekly rewards.

## Should you choose the egg or keep the case and skin?

Choose the egg if you want to raise a pet. If you collect weekly rewards to sell or trade, compare the other items first. Chicken Egg has no market price. Treating it as a zero-priced item or promising a future resale profit would be misleading.

**One pet per account**

The game allows one pet per account. The egg, the feed and the chicken cannot be sold or traded, so a pet cannot be bought or handed to a friend. Do not expect to collect another egg every week while you already have a pet.

## When your chicken hatches and how it grows

The [CS2 interface strings](https://github.com/SteamTracking/GameTracking-CS2/blob/ce2a2deb0cba2f7e8443901690c0abdb5191b7ab/game/csgo/pak01_dir/resource/csgo_english.txt) describe hatching as taking **about a week after receiving the egg**. The date is shown in your pet information and in HatchBook. Go by that date: the weekly drop reset is a different countdown. On September 28, players began [reporting their first hatched chicks](https://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/1wslgt9/first_chicken_are_getting_hatched/). These are player observations, not a universal hatch deadline announced by Valve.

| **Chick** | Every egg hatches into the same yellow chick. Naming and photos become available. |
| **Pullet** | The breed and colour are revealed. You can take the pet into official matches. |
| **Hen** | The full-grown model, with more photo poses. |

Valve has not published how long each stage lasts. The timings will become clear once the first pets go all the way from egg to hen.

## Egg and chicken types

Shells come in reddish-brown, cream, olive green, mint and pale blue, with more or fewer speckles. According to the game files the shell is purely cosmetic: no link between the shell and the chicken inside has been found. You cannot tell from the egg what will hatch.

Every egg hatches into the same yellow chick; the breed and colour are revealed at the pullet stage. The game’s roll lists contain **3 breeds and 34 obtainable colours** of adult chicken. The colour names are unofficial community labels for the game materials.

Browse the 34 wired colours: 13 Catalana, 9 Silkie and 12 Polish. A percentage on a card is a rounded estimate **within a breed the game has already selected**, calculated from published weights. “Odds unknown” means that colour has no usable weight. **40 textures do not mean 40 obtainable colours**

The current files contain six more finished textures with no style ID and no entry in a breed roll list: Catalana Red-Yellow Gradient and White with Tan Head; Silkie Black, Brown, Brown with Black Head and Tiger. No egg can grow into them now. We exclude these unused materials from the count of 34 and do not invent odds for them.

## Pet seeds: why two matching colours look different

Every pet stores a hidden **pet seed**. A separate style ID selects the base colour, while the seed fine-tunes hue, saturation, sheen and some markings. It also sets the adult bird’s proportions: body fullness, tail, leg and neck length, wing and head size, comb and wattles. Two Tan Catalanas can therefore look noticeably different. A seed does not create market rarity: pets are untradeable and Valve defines no “special” seed numbers.

## Chicken Feed: where to get food for your chicken

"Sunnyside" Chicken Feed appears in Weekly Care Packages in three quantities: a small bag, a large bag and two large bags. Like the egg, feed takes both reward picks. When the supply runs low, the game warns: "Your pet is running low on food. Grab more feed from a Weekly Care Package soon." - Even the egg needs food. If its supply expires before hatching, the egg disappears and the game says it was “moved to a warmer nest”.
- If food expires later, the pet leaves: the game says it "has accepted a position elsewhere".
- How fast a chicken eats has not been published. Watch the supply in the pet interface.
- Even with good care a chicken is not forever: a hen leaves at the end of "a long, loud life".
- Like the egg, feed cannot be sold or traded.

## HatchBook: your pet album

The interface calls the album **HatchBook**. It has three chapters that follow the growth stages: Chick, Pullet and Hen. The [game files](https://github.com/SteamTracking/GameTracking-CS2/blob/ce2a2deb0cba2f7e8443901690c0abdb5191b7ab/game/csgo/pak01_dir/resource/csgo_english.txt#L53775) list 11 poses, 10 hats, 7 actions, 9 effects, 8 filters and map backgrounds; some poses unlock only as the pet grows. The interface also allows one new name assignment when the pet enters each life stage.

**Confirmed drops and game-file details**

Players have now confirmed both egg drops and first hatchings. The game files confirm four stages, 34 wired colours, pet seeds, the need to feed an unhatched egg and HatchBook. Full stage durations, feed consumption, egg odds and breed odds remain unknown. Percentages for some colours are calculations from weights, not odds published by Valve.

## How the drop pool changes

Our homepage and drop pool list the egg as a separate reward, showing its two-pick cost and trading restriction. We show no egg percentage: Valve has not published one, and case shares cannot establish it. The addition of pets does not by itself confirm that any case has been removed.

## Questions and answers

### Can I claim an egg and a case in the same week?

Not from the same Care Package. Chicken Egg consumes both available reward picks.

### Why did I not get an egg?

Valve has not published egg odds; player reports show it is offered to only some players. Prime provides access to the weekly reward but does not guarantee an egg, and playing more matches does not change a Care Package that has already been offered.

### Can I sell a CS2 Chicken Egg on Steam?

No. The egg, the feed and the chicken cannot be sold or traded and have no market price.

### How long does an egg take to hatch?

About a week after claiming it. The exact date is shown in your pet information and in HatchBook.

### Does the shell colour affect the chicken?

Not according to the game files. The shell is purely cosmetic, and no link between it and the breed or colour of the chicken has been found. Every egg hatches into the same yellow chick.

### How many kinds of chicken are there in CS2?

Three breeds and 34 obtainable colours: Catalana has 13, Silkie 9 and Polish 12. Six additional textures exist in the files but are absent from the roll lists and cannot currently grow from an egg.

### What does a chicken’s pet seed change?

It changes shade, markings and body proportions within the selected colour. The colour is selected separately. Valve has named no special seeds, and pets cannot be sold.
