How is the CS2 market cap estimated?
The Skinory.io analytical estimate multiplies observed listed value from Skinport and Market.CSGO by one configurable supply coefficient. The coefficient is a working model assumption, not a measured share of all inventories. The current coefficient, observed value, data time and sensitivity scenarios are shown with the estimate; this is neither the amount available to withdraw nor an audited valuation of every CS2 item.
The formula
For each market hash name, prefer Skinport when its price is available; otherwise use Market.CSGO as the fallback. Take the selected source’s median price when available, otherwise its lowest listing, and multiply by that source’s reported quantity. Quantities from both sources are not added for the same name. Sum these products to obtain observed listed value. Wear, StatTrak and Souvenir variants are distinct names. The methodology names the sources and current coefficient.
Skinory chooses a configurable coefficient for scenario analysis. No independent inventory study has been verified as its calibration source. A larger coefficient increases the estimate proportionally: doubling it doubles capitalization with the observed basket unchanged. The displayed scenarios are not statistical confidence bounds.
What the number can and cannot tell
Use the estimate to examine the observed basket and explicit assumptions. Changing listings, source availability or the coefficient can change the result even without price changes. The basket selects one source per market hash name rather than summing both sources. Aggregate rows do not identify every physical item, so this is not an audited count of unique items. Missing feeds and unlisted private inventories limit coverage.
Liquidating an inventory would incur fees, price impact and execution constraints. The model does not estimate immediately withdrawable cash. Compare dated observations made with the same method and coefficient; do not interpret a change in source coverage as pure market appreciation.
- Days with stale feeds are not snapshotted; the chart keeps the last good day.
- Reference prices use source-reported medians where available and minimum listings otherwise; they do not establish a guaranteed liquidation price or a known direction of valuation error.
- Items without any listing contribute nothing, even if they are valuable.
Market cap versus the index
Capitalization applies an assumed coefficient to observed listed value; the Skinory CS2 Index chains weighted price ratios of matched items. Items appearing or disappearing do not directly contribute a matched ratio that day, but sample composition and listed quantities affect eligibility and subsequent weights. Use the index for covered price trends and capitalization for an explicitly conditional size estimate.
Fragen und Antworten
Why does Skinory’s cap differ from other sites?
Different sites use different feeds, different assumed supply coefficients and different price choices, such as median versus lowest ask. Even comparisons within one site require consistent coverage, methodology and coefficient; the methodology page explains Skinory’s choices.
Does the cap include Dota 2 or Rust items?
No. The CS2 market cap and the index cover Counter-Strike 2 items only; the other game sections have their own price pages.
How often is it updated?
The observed value changes as source data is refreshed; valid daily snapshots feed the history chart. Check the displayed data time and source status rather than assuming a fixed freshness interval.
