Souvenir and StatTrak in CS2: what they are, what they cost, how to check
Normal, StatTrak™ and souvenir versions are separate items. StatTrak™ adds a counter, while souvenir items carry tournament stickers and come from a different source. The comparison below explains each version and shows its current price premium.

In short: three versions of one skin
- The normal version. The base item: it drops from cases, collections and contracts.
- StatTrak™. The same skin with a counter: on a weapon it counts kills, on a music kit it counts MVP awards. A separate item, not a property.
- Souvenir. A separate quality associated with a Major match. Tournament sticker sets vary by release; not every souvenir has a player autograph. Souvenir and StatTrak are mutually exclusive.
- A counter cannot be added later. No tool turns a normal skin into a StatTrak™ one. A Swap Tool exchanges counter values between compatible StatTrak items.
- Some skins have no StatTrak at all. The AWP | Dragon Lore, for instance, exists as a souvenir and never as StatTrak.
- Since May 2026 souvenirs work in contracts. Their souvenir attributes are stripped and the output is a normal item.
StatTrak: what the counter actually counts
StatTrak™ is a separate item version with a built-in counter. Weapons count the owner's kills with that item; music kits count MVP awards. The value appears in the inventory and on inspection. Using the item in Steam Trading or the Community Market resets its statistics: a new owner does not inherit the previous owner's kills.
- Where it comes from. The StatTrak version drops from cases and capsules alongside the normal one — a different variant, not an upgrade.
- What does not count. Bot kills, kills with another weapon, and modes where stats are not tracked.
- Trading and selling reset the counter. A buyer starts their own statistics. Do not pay extra for another player's kill count.
- Gloves have no StatTrak. Knives do.
The StatTrak Swap Tool: what it can and cannot do
Steam Support describes the single-use tool in CS2 — StatTrak Swap Tool . It swaps the counter values of compatible StatTrak items; when used on weapons, both must be the same weapon type.
- The weapon types must match. A StatTrak M4A1-S counter can be swapped with another StatTrak M4A1-S counter. An AK-47 or a knife does not form a compatible pair with it.
- Both items must be StatTrak. A count cannot move onto a normal skin.
- Wear and pattern are irrelevant. Only the number moves.
- The tool is single use. It is consumed on use and costs $0.99 in game or on the Market.
- A purchased tool cannot be traded. Since the 12 November 2025 update, newly purchased Name Tags and StatTrak™ Swap Tools can no longer be traded or listed on the Community Market.
What the StatTrak premium is worth
The premium is not fixed: it depends on how many StatTrak copies exist and on how popular the skin is with players rather than collectors. Below is a live comparison of the normal and StatTrak versions at the best market prices, followed by the price ladder of Major souvenir packages.
Why some skins have no StatTrak
- The collection does not support StatTrak. Map-collection skins can have normal and souvenir versions without a StatTrak variant. For example, the AWP | Dragon Lore exists in both normal and souvenir quality. The normal version does not come from a souvenir package.
- A skin's age does not decide StatTrak availability. Check the variants and source of the specific item: early skins include both supported and unsupported finishes.
- It is not a weapon. Gloves, stickers, graffiti, agents and charms have no counter — there is nothing to count.
- The item comes from a special source. Medals, coins and service items exist in a single variant.
Souvenirs: where the gold stickers come from
Traditional souvenirs commemorate a Major match and map. Sticker sets changed between tournaments: teams, the event, the map and sometimes a player autograph. An MVP autograph is not present on every release. Since 2026, the Souvenir-O-Matic can also convert an eligible weapon you own into a souvenir.
- A package instead of a case. Souvenir packages open without a key and return exactly one item from the map collection.
- A souvenir is never StatTrak. The two qualities are mutually exclusive.
- Stickers can be scraped and removed. That does not turn the souvenir into a normal skin. Removed stickers do not return to your inventory, and losing an original set can reduce collector value.
- Packages are never reissued. The print run closed with the tournament, so supply only shrinks.
- Packages from past Majors are still traded. They can be bought and opened at any time — historical prices are in the block above and on the map pages.
What changed in 2026
At the IEM Cologne 2026 Major Valve rebuilt the souvenir mechanic. The tournament announcement introduced the Souvenir-O-Matic: “Take any normal or Souvenir quality weapon in your inventory and select a completed match and one of the players. You’ll get your weapon back in Souvenir quality with gold team, autograph, and map stickers applied.”
- A souvenir is now made from your own item. No waiting for a package to drop — you need the skin and a finished match of the tournament.
- The Major Shop runs on tokens. Stickers are bought with tokens and prices move with demand; if a sticker drops 25 or more tokens within a day of your purchase, Valve refunds the difference automatically.
- Pick’Em and the Viewer Pass pay in tokens. Every coin upgrade level is worth 300 tokens, spendable on stickers or souvenirs.
- Half the revenue goes to the scene. Valve stated that 50% of Major Shop and Major Pass revenue is shared with the organiser, the teams and the players.
- Old packages are untouched. Souvenir packages up to and including Budapest 2025 remain ordinary market items.
How to verify a copy
- 1 Read the name
The quality is part of the item name:
StatTrak™ AK-47 | Redline (Field-Tested)orSouvenir AWP | Dragon Lore (Factory New). A name cannot be faked in an inventory. - 2 Check the counter
A StatTrak version shows a kill count in its description. Zero on an expensive skin is normal; a missing line means the item is simply normal.
- 3 Open the souvenir stickers
Check the actual stickers in the description and inspect view: teams, event, map and an autograph where the release includes one. Stickers may have been scraped, removed or replaced.
- 4 Confirm through the inspect link
The “Inspect in game” link exposes the float, the pattern and the stickers of that exact copy — paste it into the checker, no login needed.
- 5 Sanity-check the price
A suspiciously good deal on an expensive souvenir is the classic bait. Compare prices across markets and keep the rules from How to sell skins safely in mind.
Myths
| Myth | What actually happens |
|---|---|
| StatTrak can be added to any skin | No. It is a separate version of the item and cannot be switched on. |
| The Swap Tool moves a counter to any weapon | No. Only between two StatTrak versions of the same weapon. |
| A souvenir is just a skin with stickers | Souvenir is a separate quality. Removing stickers does not turn it into a normal item, and applying gold stickers does not turn a normal skin into a souvenir. Souvenir and StatTrak are mutually exclusive. |
| Souvenirs cannot be used in contracts | Since 22 May 2026 they can — the souvenir attributes are stripped and the output is a normal item. |
| You can buy somebody else's kill count with the skin | No. Steam Trading and the Community Market reset the statistics. A Swap Tool exchanges counters between compatible StatTrak items owned by the same player. |
| StatTrak is always more expensive | Not always: on skins that players do not actually use the premium can be zero or negative. |

Maps and their collectionsQuestions and answers
What does StatTrak count in CS2?
Weapons count the owner's kills with that item; music kits count MVP awards. Steam Trading and the Community Market reset the statistics, so you cannot buy somebody else's kills.
Can StatTrak be added to a normal skin?
No. StatTrak is a separate item variant. A Swap Tool only exchanges counter values between two compatible StatTrak items; weapons must be of the same type.
How much does the StatTrak Swap Tool cost?
Steam Support lists it at $0.99 in game or on the Community Market. It is single use, and since November 2025 a freshly purchased tool cannot be traded or re-listed.
Why is there no StatTrak Dragon Lore?
The AWP | Dragon Lore belongs to the Cobblestone Collection, which does not provide a StatTrak version. Normal and souvenir versions both exist; Dragon Lore does not only come from souvenir packages.
How do I get a souvenir skin?
Historically by opening a Major souvenir package; packages from past tournaments are still traded. At IEM Cologne 2026 Valve added the Souvenir-O-Matic, which converts your own weapon into a souvenir for a chosen match and player.
Why do souvenirs from the same tournament sell for different money?
The skin and wear, collection, tournament and match, teams and autograph if present, plus sticker placement and condition all affect price. Not every release includes a player autograph.
Is there such a thing as a StatTrak souvenir?
No. The qualities are mutually exclusive: an item is either normal, StatTrak™ or souvenir.
Can souvenirs go into trade-up contracts?
Yes, since 22 May 2026. The souvenir attributes are removed and the result is a normal item of a quality one higher.
