How do I check the float of a CS2 skin?
Copy the item’s inspect link from Steam or a marketplace and paste it into the Skinory float checker: it returns the exact float, the paint seed, the wear and the stickers of that copy. Marketplace listings usually show the float too; the wear name alone only tells you the range, for example Field-Tested means 0.15 to below 0.38.
What the float is
Each skin copy has a float within the limits of its finish. Playing with the skin does not increase this value. Wear intervals are Factory New: 0 to below 0.07; Minimal Wear: 0.07 to below 0.15; Field-Tested: 0.15 to below 0.38; Well-Worn: 0.38 to below 0.45; Battle-Scarred: 0.45 to 1.
Many skins cannot reach the whole range. A skin with a cap of 0.5 never drops as Battle-Scarred above 0.5, and a skin with a minimum of 0.06 has no float below it. The item page on Skinory shows the min and max float of each skin.
Three ways to read it
Copy the inspect link from the current inventory or listing and paste it into the float checker. When item data is available, Skinory displays the float, seed and other supported details. If the item has moved or the link is stale, obtain a fresh link.
A marketplace may display the float next to the price. If it does not, look for an inspect link; do not assume every listing exposes one.
In game, open the inventory, inspect the item and look at the wear rating in the item details. It is the same value, rounded.
- Floats with many decimals matter at the borders: 0.0699 is Factory New, 0.0700 is Minimal Wear.
- A lower float may be valued within a wear category, but it does not guarantee a higher sale price.
- Trade-up contracts use the floats of the inputs, so the trade-up calculator asks for them.
Float, seed and pattern are different things
Float sets wear. The paint seed controls pattern placement for seed-dependent finishes such as Case Hardened. A Doppler Ruby is identified by its finish or paint index, not created by its seed. The float and patterns guide explains these separate attributes.
Pytania i odpowiedzi
Does the float change over time or with use?
No. Float, seed and the StatTrak flag are set at creation and stay the same for the life of the item.
Why does the checker say the item has moved?
The inspect link points to a specific owner and asset. When the item is traded or sold, the old link stops answering; copy a fresh link from the current listing or inventory.
Is a lower float always better?
Not always. Appearance, special patterns and buyer demand matter too. Check whether a price series represents asking prices or completed sales before using it to value a particular float.
